A Nail Soup

One day, a hungry man knocked on a woman’s door and asked for food. She said, “I don’t have any food for you.”
“That’s OK,” the man replied. “I have a nail. I can make us some soup.”
The woman let him in. the man put his nail into a pot of water and said, “It’s always tastier when I put in some celery and salt.” The woman wanted some nail soup. So she got him some celery and salt.
Next the man said, “Onions and potatoes make the soup cook faster.” The woman was very hungry. So she put some onions and potatoes into the pot too. The soup boiled and boiled.
The woman said, “It smells delicious.”
The man smiled and said, “Yes, and I made it with just a nail!”

An Excursion

On Thursday, Class 8 A went on an excursion to observe plants.
First we went to Port Kembla Beach. There were not many plants because of the salt and the sand. Then we got back on the bus.
Next we went to steelworks. We sat on a hill and observed the plants. We saw bushes and grass. Not many plants grow because of the pollution.
We got back on the bus and went to Mt. Keira rainforest. We got off the bus and ate our little lunch in the cleaning area. We saw many different types of plants and trees. We saw wattle trees, tall trees, thin trees, and rock plants.
After that we got back on the bus and went back to school. We arrived at school at 12 o’clock. Then we went into school and talked about our excursion.
We had GREAT fun!!!!

Going on Camping

Bob and Greg were new to camping. They didn’t know the rules.
After they helped their dad put up the tent, they wanted to watch up TV. They took the TV out of their camping bag. When their dad knew the TV, he said, “Why did you bring that? There was no electricity!”
That night it was cold. The boys didn’t want to use their electric blanket. They remembered they didn’t have any electricity. They slept only three hours because they were cold.
When they got up in the morning, they wanted to wash in the cold lake water. And there were any fresh milk or orange juice to drink.
When the boys got home, they ran into the house. They turned on the television and sat under the electric blanket. “What are you and Bob doing?” their dad asked. “We’re just happy to be home,” the boys said.

Going to Amazon River

One day, when I went on a picnic to a lake I met somebody. He asked me some food. I gave him food and drink. After that, for return he gave me a carpet, a beautiful carpet. After giving the carpet, suddenly he was disappeared. I was surprised. Not long after that I sat on the carpet. Once again, I was surprised because the carpet could fly. It could take me everywhere.
One day, I visited Brazil. Before going there, I called my friends. Then, we bought fishing equipments. After ready, then we went to Amazon River. You know Amazon? It is a very famous river in Brazil. We went there because in Amazon there are some big fish.
We left home at 8 o’clock in the morning. One hour later, we arrived in Amazon River, and we went on fishing. Two minutes later, a fish ate my friend’s bait. He removed his bait, and … surprisingly, he got a piranha.
One hour later, our bucket was full of fish. But there were still a fish eating my bait. In this case, I could not remove my bait alone. The fish was very big and strong. With my friend’s help, finally I could remove the bait. We were very surprised because I got … you know … Arapaima. Arapaima was the biggest fish in Brazil.
After fishing in Amazon, we went home. Suddenly I heard a deep voice, “Fanny …, Fanny …Get up, my dear. It’s morning,” My mother called me. Then, I got up from my bed. “That’s too bad. I went to Brazil but that’s just a dream”. I dream of going to Brazil because before sleeping I read an Aladin book.
That’s my story. Although it’s only a dream, I believe it will happen in my future life.

On Sunday

It was Sunday. Billy and his friend didn’t go to school, so they planned to clean the bedroom. They also cleaned the bathroom and living room. They made the bed, swept and mopped the floor, dusted the furniture and rearranged all their books. “Now everything looks so clean and tidy,” said Billy.
After they finished with the rooms, they went to the garden. They cut the grass, swept the dirty leaves, and watered the plants. Mother was very happy and very proud of them. She gave Billy and his friends a delicious breakfast of fried rice and scrambled eggs.

Going to Green Trees Park

Last month, the Wilsons went to Green Trees Park. Jim and Sally sat under the trees and talked and read. The children played ball.
Sally decided to take pictures of the children. She focused her camera. Then, she heard a scream. Sally looked up. A man was stealing a woman’s purse. He was running in her direction.
Sally thought fast. She took three pictures of the man. When the police came, she gave them the film.
The next day, one of Sally’s photographs was in the newspaper. Under the pictures was the story of robbery. In a few hours, the police knew the man’s name and address. They went to his house and arrested him. The man is now in jail.

Ryan's experience

Yesterday Ryan got up late. Usually he gets up at 5 o’clock every morning. But this morning he got up at 6.35. Then he went to the bathroom, and took a bath soon. After he took a bath at 6.45, he had breakfast. At 7.00, he had some bread and a glass of milk for his breakfast.
When he got to the bus stop at 7.10, he missed a bus to school. So he went to school on foot. He ran fast. He arrived at school at 7.45. He was late for school. At 7.50 he entered his classroom. He knocked at the door and then he said to the teacher, “I’m sorry, Sir. I’m late”.
Ryan’s teacher, Mr. Herman asked, “Why do you come so late, Ryan?”
“I got up at 6.35 this morning, Sir”, answered Ryan.
“OK, sit down. But don’t come late again!” said Mr. Herman.
“Thank you, Sir”, said Ryan.
Ryan was happy Mr. Herman was not angry with him. However, he felt ashamed with all his classmates. He promised he would not come late again.

Joni's experience

Yesterday, Joni got an accident. When he was riding his motorbike along the street, a truck came out of the side of the street and hit his motorbike. His motorbike was thrown away and he fell from it. It was damaged and Joni got a broken leg, his right leg.
In few minutes later a policeman came to the site and checked Joni and his motorcycle. Then he interviewed the truck driver and some people who watched the accident. He wanted to get the right information as the data about the accident. Later on, through the hand phone, he called ambulance to take Joni.
About 15 minutes after the accident, an ambulance came and Joni was taken to hospital. Two men carried him on a stretcher and put him on a bed carefully. A nurse came and wrote his name and address in a book. She gave him a glass of tea to drink. She wept his body to be free from blood and dirt.
When the doctor came, he examined Joni's body, especially his right leg and then he said,” Yes, Joni’s leg is broken.” The doctor gave him an injection for possible infection and put his broken leg on a plaster cast. The doctor advised him to be careful. He said, "you will recover soon, Joni and you should move carefully. Don't forget to take medicines". And Joni replied, "All right, doctor"
Joni must stay in the hospital until he is well again. His family and relatives have visited him. His teachers and friends also visit him in turn. Joni is very glad to see them. I hope he will get well soon

A Letter to Sarah

Demak, January 24, 2007

Dear Sinta,
Now I am very happy. How about you, Sinta? I want to tell you about my birthday party last week.
Last week I had my birthday party at school. I invited some of my classmates to have some snacks and drink at the school canteen. I told them it was my birthday party.
All my friends shook my hands and said congratulation on my birthday. Then they sang “Happy Birthday” together. They also clapped their hands happily.
The teachers also celebrated my birthday. One of them gave me a good pen as a gift of my birthday.
The party was very simple but it was fun. And we were very happy.
I think it’s all. I hope you are happy, too.

Love,
Sarah

A Letter to Grandpa and Grandma

Dear Grandpa and Grandma,
Yesterday at my school we had an International Day. We had performances, food stalls, displays, raffle ticket draw, and some of us were dressed in costumes.
We started our day off with performances but the one I liked best was the one from fourth grade. We played games. The performance I was in was Labamba.
Straight after performances we had our lunch. There were food stalls. They came from Australia, Asia, Arab, and Greece.
Everyone had a job. These people were from sixth grade. I did my job after I had lunch. My job was to sell International Day Books.
We had displays in the hall. These displays were good but I didn't get to see them. These displays came from a lot of countries.
There were also Trash and Treasure stalls where they sold toys. The school got these things by asking the children to bring them in.
Although I didn't win anything, International Day was still fun.
Love from Sue
